Biography
A onetime backing singer for Alicia Keys, Jessy Wilson's stylish R&B takes influence from the soul music of the '60s and '70s. She released her debut album, Phase, in 2019. A Brooklyn native, Wilson attended performing arts school Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in Manhattan. After graduating, she was selected to sing backup for Alicia Keys, eventually appearing on multiple Keys albums and tours. Her singing was featured on the Skyzoo single "The Knowing" in 2012. A year later, Wilson relocated to Nashville and had the opportunity to write with musical heavyweights including her mentor, John Legend. She soon formed soulful roots rock duo Muddy Magnolias with fellow singer/songwriter Kallie North. They released the album Broken People on Third Man Records in 2016. That year, she also appeared as a backing vocalist on Legend's DARKNESS AND LIGHT album. Muddy Magnolias disbanded in 2017, but a David Lynch remix of their song "American Woman" appeared on that year's Twin Peaks: Limited Event Series Soundtrack. Wilson re-emerged with the solo single "Love & Sophistication" in early 2019. With production and co-writing by Patrick Carney of the Black Keys, her debut LP, Phase, followed in May 2019 with distribution from Thirty Tigers Records. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
