Biography
Producer, sonic architect, singer and songwriter Paul Thomas Saunders possesses an emotive, high-register singing voice that reveals his origins as a trained choir singer. It is instantly recognizable. Using just his guitar, a microphone, and a computer, he released 3 home-recorded EPs leading to live shows opening for acts like Low, The Staves, Patrick Watson, Villagers, and Frightened Rabbit. The Brighton-based singer-songwriter released his debut album, Beautiful Desolation, on Atlantic in 2014 to rave reviews from The Guardian, The Times, The Line of Best Fit and more. However, he soon became convinced that his art was of no value and left the industry abruptly to train for a job he couldn’t question the value of, a paramedic. He made a fleeting return in 2017 with two singles, featured on Mae Martin’s acclaimed Netflix series ‘Feel Good’ but it proved to be a false start. A surprise invite from Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon to play at the Forbidden Fruit Festival in 2018, a festival Vernon curated in Dublin, helped Saunders rediscover the value in his work and a collection of new songs followed.
