Biography
With their spectacular viral video Witch Doctor and support slots for Muse, Biffy Clyro and the Rolling Stones, Dutch band De Staat remain joyfully uncategorisable. Under the wing of frontman Torre Florim, they flirt with funk and tribal rhythms, introspection and wild humour, owing more to David Byrne or Prince in their musical attitude than any ordinary rock band. And fourteen years into their career, they’re launching their latest project: Red, Yellow, Blue. There are so many ways in which people try to describe De Staat’s music and none of them fit… but Red, Yellow and Blue are their alternative categories for the various moods of songs they’ve been writing all this time. Releasing music in categories – this is not a traditional studio album. De Staat placed themselves in boxes, with the result that they were actually freer. — The band will tour with the 'Red, Yellow, Blue' project. In the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium, they will play three shows on three different nights, each night featuring a different colour. In Scandinavia, De Staat will play combined shows, where their live set will be divided into three coloured parts red, yellow, blue. 2023 27 Sept - Blå - Oslo (NO) 28 Sept - Nalen Klubb - Stockholm (SE) 29 Sept - Stengade - Copenhagen (DK) 2024 12, 13 and 14 Jan - Oslo Hackney - London (UK) 19, 20 and 21 Jan - Doornroosje - Nijmegen (NL) 29, 30 and 31 Jan - Paradiso - Amsterdam (NL) 7, 8 and 9 Feb - De Casino - St. Niklaas (BE)
