Biography
Scottish singer/songwriter and producer Jimme O'Neill first appeared in the late 70's with Fingerprintz, an eclectic band that recorded for Virgin from 1979 to 1981 and also released an album for Stiff. O'Neill wrote for other artists including Jacqui Brookes, Lene Lovich, Paul Young and Tony Stone as well as briefly playing guitar with Kilburn and the High Roads. He formed The Silencers in 1986 with Fingerprintz bandmate Cha Burns, bassist Joe Donnelly and drummer Martin Hanlin. Signed to RCA the band debuted in 1987 with A Letter from St. Paul. The Silencers had a few modest chart hits in the 80s & 90s and had two gold selling albums A Blues for Buddha and Dance to the Holy Man. The current line up (2023) includes Jimme's daughter Aura who joined as a vocalist in 1997 and 2 of his sons, James and Conor both on guitar. The band have nine studio albums which include Blood and Rain (The Singles) and A Night of Electric Silence, recorded live at Celtic Connections, their Tenth album is Silent Highway, due for release in 2023.
