Biography
Jamaica are an electro-tinged French indie rock duo who made their full-length album debut in 2010. Based in Paris, France, the duo is comprised of Antoine Hilaire (vocals, guitar) and Flo Lyonnet (bass, vocals), who went by the name Poney Poney for a several years before changing their name to Jamaica in 2009. As Poney Poney, they made their commercial recording debut in 2006 with "Junior," a split single on Arcade Mode produced by Xavier de Rosnay from the Ed Banger Records flagship act Justice. More notably, they released the Cross the Fader EP on Perspex Recordings in 2008 and the When Do You Wanna Stop Working? EP on Institubes in 2009. Upon changing their name to Jamaica, Hilaire and Lyonnet made their commercial recording debut using that moniker with the single "I Think I Like U 2" on Cooperative Music in 2010. Around the same time, their song "Short and Entertaining" was featured on Kitsuné Maison Compilation 9. Not long thereafter, Jamaica made their full-length album debut with No Problem (2010). Produced by de Rosnay and Peter Franco, the album includes new versions of "Cross the Fader" and other previously released Poney Poney material. In 2014, Jamaica returned with their sophomore album, Ventura, which was recorded partially in a rented house on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles, and in Paris with Laurent d'Herbecourt. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
