Biography
Lunice has been instrumental in fusing hip-hop & dance music since the late 00s, emerging as an architect for the subgenre known as trap. Lunice Fermin Pierre II was born in Montréal in 1988; initially a breakdancer before producing music & DJing a local night called Turbo Crunk, founded by a school friend: the DJ / tastemaker Jacques Greene. In 2010, Lunice signed to LuckyMe, a label at the fore of new music. His debut EP, Stacker Upper was followed in 2011 by One Hunned. Both releases showcased his skill for producing highly-detailed yet restrained beats. Around this time he met Diplo, performing at Mad Decent Block Parties & collab'ing on a Deerhunter RMX. Amidst a busy tour schedule, Lu worked with Azealia Banks (famously in the 212 video) and rmxd The xx & Danny Brown. In 2012, Lunice & LuckyMe co-founder Hudson Mohawke debuted as TNGHT. The duo's self-titled EP was co-released by Warp and was a tremendous success, appearing on many year-end lists, influencing numerous producers. The duo made tracks for Lil Wayne, Wacka Flocka Flame, and Flying Lotus - contributing to Yeezus & Cruel Summer sessions in Hawaii for Kanye West. In 2017 he opened for Madonna on a stadium World Tour, then released his debut full-length, CCCLX (360), an ambitious effort ft SOPHIE, Denzel Curry & Le1f. In 2018 Lunice designed an award-winning experimental performance for Cirque Du Soleil. In late 2019 he dropped a surprise TNGHT ep with Hud Mo, disappearing once again to plot a new album.
