Biography
Hailing from Arlington, Texas, Todrick Hall is an American entertainer who rose to fame after making it to the semifinals of the ninth season of American Idol in 2010. A man of many talents that include singing, acting, dance choreography, and directing, Hall decided to transform his brief moment of fame into a fully-fledged career that traversed the arts. He began by creating an ongoing series of viral videos dedicated to some of his favorite music artists. Stating that the idea of talent show graduates releasing albums or EPs was a tried-and-tested idea, he ultimately decided to pursue the route of combining his many talents using the resources available through online streaming platform YouTube. The move proved to be a successful one, and his YouTube creations quickly became online sensations -- most notably due to their flash mob videos for Ariana Grande and Beyoncé, and for directing and starring in a reinvention of The Wizard of Oz. His YouTube channel eventually exceeded two million subscribers. Hall landed a starring role in a pop music safety video commissioned by Virgin America (for which he also wrote the music), gained a spot on the judge's panel of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and starred in his own MTV documentary series, Todrick. In December 2013, he released a Christmas record, Dear Santa, and followed up with an hour-long visual album, Straight Outta Oz, in summer 2016. Hall toured to promote the release later that year, but the trek was interrupted by a casting call for Broadway's Kinky Boots. Hall starred as Lola for a four-month stretch before resuming the Oz tour. March 2018 saw the release of the visual LP Forbidden, which was followed by an international tour. In May 2019, he announced that he would be releasing a trilogy of EPs throughout the year, starting that month with Haus Party, Pt. 1. He also returned to Broadway when he joined the cast of Waitress in the role of Ogie Anhorn for a limited run. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
