West London artist Abi Ocia won't be rushed. Since her debut single, 2016's elegant, gently percolating ‘Running’ she's eschewed the constant need for 'content' in favour of taking her sweet time. For Ocia – a history buff, fascinated with details – it's all about leaving clues and building worlds, a technique that encourages the listener to take their time to get to know her via her music. Even 2019's debut EP, 'Where Are You?,' came cloaked in mystery, with the artwork – inspired by Shakespeare's King Lear – showing her face partially covered, while she often kept her deliciously weatherworn vocal buried in the swirl of genre-agnostic soundscapes and often pin-pricked by sonic bricolage. A fully independent artist, Ocia has the luxury of doing things on her own terms, revealing fresh-faced artistry with each step.
