Biography

James the prophet is a tri-national artist born in France to a British mother and American father. Upon arrival in Paris at the age of thirteen, he became involved in the graffiti scene, which led him to music production and writing. Inspired by the likes of Jay Z, Biggie, Outkast and new wave artists Isaiah Rashad, Saba and Smino, James delivers impactful and candid introspective verses about identity, art and anxiety. His first mixtape “Summer Archives” was released in 2020, followed by “Unimaginable Storms” in 2021, where he explored more jazzy, acoustic sounds on tracks such as “Power On”, an ode to perseverance through difficult times. On “G.O.P”, he delved into his American background from a European perspective, teaming up with French rapper Kalash Criminel. The same year, he opened for The Pharcyde and IDK in Paris, and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) throughout his French tour. He also released features with Lord Apex and Chester Watson, cementing himself as a newcomer to follow in the alternative hip hop scene. After releasing the collaborative EP “Stellar” with his high school friend Pab The Kid, which is more melodic and upbeat than his previous projects, he is looking forward to returning to his lofi roots in 2023.
