Biography

Born and raised in the Nordic forest of Sweden on small crop of land called Sollerön – known as the Island of the Sun – Winona Oak is every bit as enchanting as her origin story. With a childhood spent encountering more animals than people, she grew up a trained horse acrobat alongside pursuits of creative expression through poetry, songwriting, violin and piano. 
 Island of the Sun, the new single from Swedish artist Winona Oak, takes its title from her storybook-like homeland: a sparsely populated and lushly forested island in a Nordic lake. “Life is so simple and peaceful where I come from,” says Winona. “I wanted to name the new single after this place where everything always feels safe and magical.” Upon moving to Stockholm, Winona developed her sophisticated and inventive sound. Landing a deal with Atlantic/Neon Gold Records, Winona released her debut EP Closure and sophomore EP SHE in 2020. Mainly recorded in L.A., Island of the Sun showcases Winona’s gift for dreaming up otherworldly melodies and encompassing both raw emotional outpouring and exquisitely detailed poetry. Winona Oak is set to tour with British alt-pop duo Oh Wonder on their Spring 2022 tour.
