Biography
"When music journalists say things like 'this artist is a fixture in Seattle music,' there’s probably no one right now who fits that title better than Nakayama." - KEXP........... Born in Japan and raised in Seattle, Tomo Nakayama is an artist whose melodic, subtly complex and emotionally compelling music has earned raves from the likes of NPR, New York Times, and KEXP. He has shared the stage with the likes of Ben Gibbard, Cornelius, Fleet Foxes, Sera Cahoone, and Zola Jesus. His new album, "Melonday" (out 4/7 on Porchlight Records) marks a departure from the acoustic folk for which he has been known, into electronic synthpop. Despite the stylistic shift, what remains consistent is the honest, nuanced, instantly memorable quality of his songwriting and the crystalline high-tenor vocals which The Stranger calls "the best singing voice in Seattle". "Melonday" debuted at #1 on the NW Charts and was named one of the Top 15 Albums of 2020 by Seattle Times.
