Biography
Pianist and composer Joseph Lawrenson and singer-songwriter David Henshaw began writing together in 2008, joined shortly after by school friends Dan Fielding (now That Is Good) and Joe Semple, who began performing with them on the Leeds music scene - where they were quickly picked up by independent label Hide & Seek Records. Violinist D. Butler and drummer Joe Montague soon joined and Dancing Years formed to record their first single Here's to My Old Friends (2013) with James Kenosha (Pulled Apart By Horses and RHODES), After their first headline tour and favourable local radio coverage, the group became BBC 6 Music darlings – drawing comparisons to the The Blue Nile, Glen Hansard and The National - with a run of releases on 7-inch vinyl championed by the likes of Steve Lemacq, Huw Stephens and Cerys Matthews. The success of their debut EP Learn to Kiss, produced by Colin Elliot (Slow Club and Richard Hawley), saw them playlisted by BBC Radio 1 with a BBC Introducing Stage set at Glastonbury in 2016. After embarking on their first headline the same tour the group disbanded, now only working collaboratively together occasionally on solo records.
