Biography
Swedish pop group the Nightman comprises three musicians - Pär Brumark (vocals), Magnus Velgas (guitar) and Stry Kanarie (guitar). They formed in 1992 and were soon offered a contract with the CNR Records label. Their image was immediately distinctive - the group dressing like extras from 60s b-movies and horror films. Brumark’s appearance, in particular, was unusual - he usually appeared bedecked in a top hat and tails for press photographs. The group’s principal writer, he brought a history of successful songwriting to the group, having worked with Grammy award-winner Jean-Pierre Millars in France (together the enjoyed a major hit with the song ‘Let Me Be Your No. 1’). Velgas has previously worked as a session guitarist and engineer in London, Sydney and Los Angeles, while Kanarie was previously a founder member of the Swedish cult bands Ebba Grön and Rymdimperiet. Nightman’s debut single, ‘News’, announced their style - a mix of pop/dance with strong rock guitar undercurrents. The subsequent album, Divided Colours Of The Nightman (a pun on Benetton’s advertising), included several guest artists and remixers such as Treble And Bass.
