Biography
El Perro del Mar the Swedish female artist whose first recordings were confections combining girl group pop and deep melancholy. The debut "Look! It's El Perro del Mar!" released in Scandinavia in 2004 was renamed to only "El Perro del Mar"for its international release. In 2008, the hymnal album "From The Valley To The Stars" was released. It was followed by an extensive US-tour together with Lykke Li. The album was awarded the Swedish Public Radio award for Best Pop Album. For her next album she signed up with Rasmus Hägg from the influential duo STUDIO. The album "Love Is Not Pop"(2009) drew inspiration from artists like Arthur Russell though still retaining her significant sound. The 2012 album "Pale Fire" expanded on the soundscapes of "Love Is Not Pop", pushing the artist further into dark pop waters hinting to her longtime icons Cocteau Twins while also referring to modern acts such as Gang Gang Dance. The 5th album, "KoKoro"(2016) incorporated Arabic strings and sounds and was partly inspired by Ethiopian and Indian music. The album, a critique to consumerism, was created with producer Jacob Haage and was released on the artist's own label Ging Ging Recordings as was the next album "We Are History"(2018). In 2020 the album "FREE LAND" was released. The Grammy-nominated album is a praisal for art + the freedom of art. It is not fully available on Spotify to critique the company's disrespectful attitude towards artists. Find it on Bandcamp! 2023 = new music
