Biography
Pestolaer was formed in 1992 by Taba (vocals), Nyoman (guitar), P.A (bass), and Boris (drums) to bring the first wave of punk rock to the underground scene in Jakarta 90s through the cover of Sex Pistols. In the midst of the growing popularity and mass base, Pestolaer surprisingly changed his musical pitch in 1994 to the realm of "Indis / Britpop" music such as The Charlatans and The Stone Roses. This pivot action then triggers pros and cons for most people. Moreover, Indis was still a new thing at that time. But instead of being busy responding to controversy, Pestolaer went ahead and was ignorant of the public bullying. They prefer to think of this change as an increase in their level of understanding of music in an independent scene that was just developing at that time. In 1995, their debut self titled album was born. Following later in 1997, Jang Doeloe's second album was released independently. Ordained the position of Pestolaer as one of the pioneers of Indie Rock / Pop in Jakarta. Changing personnel, in 2004 they came with a new formation: Ones on drums, Erlangga Ishander on guitar, Nanang on bass and Haryo on keyboards, producing their third full album entitled Tribute For You under the auspices of Tambourine Records (2006). 7 years later, the fourth album was born, Rhythm of Mine (2013) together with the anthology album Birth - School - Indie Rock - Death released in the same year containing 10 best Pestolaer numbers.
