Li-An William Wei, professionally known as WeiBird, is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter well versed in folk pop, soul, and R&B. Despite picking up the guitar at the age of fifteen, he has since demonstrated his great talents in both songwriting and live performances. His works can be found in those of numerous high-profile Mandopop artists, such as Jolin Tsai, Park Jung Min, Vivian Hsu, and many more. He has been highly recognized by the Mandopop industry since his debut album titled WeiBird. In 2010, this album was nominated for four Golden Melody Awards (GMA, widely known as the Grammys of Mando Pop)—Best Male Mandarin Singer, Best Mandarin Album, Best Composition, Best New Artist, and won the Best New Artist award. In 2015 he won another GMAs (Best Composition) with his third album, Journey into the Night, which he solely composed and produced. His latest album (5th studio album released in 2020) titled Sounds of My Life attempts to present a documentary on sounds meaningful to his life. With the sound bites of his co-workers, friends, family, fans, and even pets sprinkled throughout the entire album, it is his most ambitious work to date. Heavily influenced by contemporary R&B and soul, the songs in this album touch upon love and loss, growing pains, his adorable cats, and, most importantly, his gratitude towards all those around him. As Weibird said, this album is a “love letter to all those sounds/people in his life. Without them, life would be meaningless.”
