Biography
Huckleberryfinn was formed in Seoul, South Korea in 1997. As one of the representative bands from the first generation of Korean indie music, they have been continuously active to the present day. They will release their seventh full-length album in 2022. In addition to founding member Lee Kiyong, the band consists of full time members Lee Soyoung and Sung Jangkyu. Huckleberryfinn's music is highly regarded for its musical depth and complex lyrical themes dealing with human alienation, individual desires vs. the community, and longing for social change. They received the Best Modern Rock Album Award at the 5th annual Korean Popular Music Awards, and have two albums on the Korean Pop Music History Top 100 List. Although their core sound was born with alternative rock music, Huckleberryfinn have constantly expanded their range to include influences from ambient music, post-rock, folk, and electronica, continually evolving their sound. In 2021 their song Tempest, from the soundtrack of Korean drama ‘The Devil Judge’ was praised by music and drama fans both at home and abroad for its addictive guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. In October 2021, Huckleberryfinn will release their new single, 'Venus' (Geumseong), which combines cheerful synthesizers and characteristic guitar riffs, revealing yet another evolution in sound. The song deals with the climate crisis, showing their steady interest in social issues.
