With her velvet-voiced authority and captivating songwriting, Kim Carnie has fast become one of the most celebrated singers and composers in Scottish folk music. The multi award-winning singer has featured not only on some of the UK’s biggest stages, but across the world via film and computer game soundtracks, including Black Mirror, Netflix’s Outlaw King and The Bard’s Tale. Crowned Gaelic Singer of the Year 2021, she released her debut album ‘And So we Gather’ (2022) to critical acclaim, landing her a German’s Critics Choice Award as well as being shortlisted for Album of the Year at BBC Alba’s Scot’s Trad Awards. ‘She Moves Me’, a single from the album, was awarded Video of the Year at the same ceremony. An in-demand session vocalist, Kim has worked with producers including Jim Sutherland (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen), Donald Shaw, Christian Henson and Ged Grimes (Simple Minds). 2019 and 2020, saw the singer join bands Mànran and Staran, respectively, as lead singer. A notable songwriter, she has been commissioned to compose for a number of festivals and collectives, including the Blas Festival and Scotland’s National Storytelling Centre. Her debut album has been recognised as one of the ‘biggest folk and Gaelic records of the generation’ bringing together some of the brightest names on the Scottish music scene, from Julie Fowlis and Karen Matheson to Senegalese Kora player Kadialy Kouyate. She will continue to tour in 2023 in support of this release.
