Biography
Peyton was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Peyton’s life has been filled with music since she began learning the violin at five. She grew up singing in church every Sunday and performing in classical ensembles. Peyton's late grandmother Theola Booker was a formative inspiration who not only composed and arranged music for renowned gospel musician Rev James Cleveland, of which she received a Grammy nomination for her work behind the scenes, but also taught piano for decades at Peyton's elementary school. In 2015, Peyton collaborated with Steve Lacy of The Internet for the track “Verbs” and released her debut EP- Roller Coaster. She soon after released the single “Sweet Honey,” which caught the ear of Peanut Butter Wolf, who signed Peyton to Stones Throw Records. The track has also been featured on season 3 of Issa Rae’s hit HBO series Insecure. In 2019, Peyton released her debut Stones Throw EP Reach Out and graduated with a bachelors degree in classical voice in 2020. In 2021, Peyton released her debut album PSA in July. PSA was three years in the making and Peyton worked with several producers including Biako, Vicky Farewell and Keys & Krates, to bring her vision to life. That same year, she recorded a live performance of one of her favourite songs 'Make Me Say It Again, Girl' by The Isley Brothers. Peanut Butter Wolf saw the video and encouraged her to record a more fleshed-out version in the studio. This electronic rendition of the song is out now on Stones Throw.
