Biography
A classic songwriter with an eclectic, genre-transcending approach, Grace Carter was first signed at the age of 17.A natural avenue for her self-expression, Carter’s music has always been an outlet for the many challenges of life, with an honesty that resonates with her listeners.Londoner by birth and by heart, Carter’s songwriting is heavily influenced by her experience of growing up in a small seaside town where the lack of diversity made her acutely aware of her own identity, and inspired the soul-searching that is at the core of her work. With Carter’s father being largely absent from her life, it was her mother who gave her the foundation for developing her musical genius: R&B, reggae, and soulful vocalists like Lauryn Hill and Nina Simone combined to spark Carter’s creativity and continue to influence her work to this day. Thanks to her stepfather’s active prodding and guidance, Carter became a songwriter at age 13 and by the time she was 16, she returned back to London to attend a music college, signing her first publishing deal. Three years later, she reached No.3 on the BBC Sound of 2019 poll and accompanied the likes of Dua Lipa, Jorja Smith and Lewis Capaldi.Fast-forward to 2023, listeners are now getting a chance to enter Carter's world and experience her art after a creative hiatus due to Covid. She's set to further connect with fans and audiences through the live circuit, such as her headline show at Omeara which sold out in minutes.
