Biography
With a combination of powerful vocals, emotionally evocative instrumentals, and melodic rapping, Brooklyn-born Melvoni broke out to wide acclaim when he was just 15 years old. Several singles with lyrics detailing the struggles of growing up fast in a high-pressure environment led up to the release of his Who TF Is Melvoni? EP in 2020. Melvoni was born in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn in 2003. His older brother Tione was a few years ahead of him getting into the rap game, establishing himself under the name Lil Tjay in 2017. Melvoni, still in his early teens at this point, was getting more interested in music as well. By 2018, he had posted his first songs online, starting his career by uploading a video for his debut song, "Beautiful Girls." The next year, his acoustic guitar-centered track "Memories" became a breakout single, garnering positive press and being streamed tens of thousands of times. He continued releasing new songs over the next several months, each one performing better than the last. Tracks like "Big Rocks" and "No Man's Land" and their accompanying videos all streamed in the millions and showcased Melvoni's emotive blend of struggle-based rap storytelling and vocal fortitude. In March 2020, he collected some of his best-known material in the five-song EP Who TF Is Melvoni? ~ Fred Thomas
