Biography
The D/A Method was a progressive rock band from Karachi, Pakistan. The band was formed in 2012 by guitarists Umair Dar and Talha Alvie who set out to create music that combined their eclectic tastes and influences, ranging from Pakistani folk to black metal. The band’s sound can best be described as a constant tug-of-war between dreamy, mellow psychedelia and crushing, heavy rock with a hint of traditional Pakistani flavor thrown in. Joined by the blues-inspired Usama Siddiq on vocals and Romanian-born Istvan Csabai on drums, the band released the Janissaries EP in 2014 which included a cover of Katatonia’s doom classic Brave. The band’s first full length album The Great Disillusion – a three-part concept album – was released in 2015. That same year, the band began recording their second full length album The Desert Road in collaboration with Bruce Soord of English progressive rock band The Pineapple Thief. The album was released on September 14, 2017, accompanied by music videos for the tracks The Desert Journey and Dream Sequence. On March 27, 2022 The D/A Method released their third and final album Sanctuary, completing the trilogy of full-length concept albums. With electronic musician Daniel Arthur Panjwaneey taking over bass duties on the record, Sanctuary represents the pinnacle of the ‘D/A’ sound and seeks to take the listener on a journey that gives deeper context and meaning to what came before. The band parted ways after releasing the album.
