Biography
Anne Grete Preus (1957-2019) has been making her mark on the musical life of Norway for forty years. Since her debut album with folk-rock band Veslefrikk (1978-82), succeeded by her postpunk band CanCan (1983-87), she has been ranked as a highly influential musician, songwriter and live performer. In 2018 Preus celebrates forty years as a recording artist, and the thirty years anniversary for her debut solo album, Fullmåne. Following the success of Fullmåne, her next albums Lav sol og Høy Himmel! (1989) and Og høsten kommer tidsnok (1991) featured songs like «Fryd», «Jeg er en by» and «Sommerfuglvinger» and are considered contemporary classics. Millimeter (1994) earned her the Spelleman Prize (Norwegian Grammy) for best album, best song and best female artist. In 2013, she was inducted into the Rockheim Hall of Fame, and was awarded the honorary Spellemann Prize that same year. She received Anders Jahre Culture Prize 2018 for her work as a songpoet. Preus’ music spans from complex rock arrangements to quiet songs, all performed with her strong vocal as centre. Her lyrics are of high literary quality, reflecting on questions about identity, relationships, time and truth. Her musical search for truths about today’s world, is what give Preus’s lyrics their universality and make people fall in love with her songs over and over again.
