Biography

Birds Are Indie were born in Coimbra, in 2010, created by Ricardo Jerónimo and Joana Corker, who fell in love in 1998, and were after joined by Henrique Toscano, a long-time friend. Being an independent band, they have been winning over the public and the specialized critic, as well as playing all over Portugal and Spain, where they present their unique way of being on stage. With a peculiar career, that include several EPs and 6 albums, 2023 brings the release of "Ones & Zeros", once again recorded at Blue House studio and published by Lux Records. Tracing a new direction in the band's path, "Ones & Zeros" is a conceptual album where the trio focused more on intensity than on harmony and got more involved in the sound as a whole, than in the delicacy of the arrangements. This resulted in 10 songs that without losing a certain pop essence, mix distorted guitars, danceable drum machines, analogue synthesizers, powerful drums and bass, to which are added harsher voices than usual, serving the urgency of the lyrics. These, heavily laden with stimuli absorbed in the pandemic scenario, present an artistic vision that touches on dystopian issues, the relationship with artificial intelligence and the ambivalence between the real and virtual worlds.
