Biography
Not to be confused with the Swedish band Naglfar, Aachen, Germany's Nagelfar were founded in 1993 by guitarist Zorn and drummer Alexander von Meilenwald, sharing only their mutual interest in black metal and a name based on the "wraith ferry" described in Norse mythology. After sharpening their sound on a couple of demos and adding vocalist Jander and bassist Sveinn, Nagelfar recorded their first full-length album, Hünengrab Im Herbst, in 1997, with hometown hero Andy Classen of Holy Moses fame acting as producer. This, along with its 1999 follow-up, Strontgorrth, showcased the band's uncompromising brand of epic, German-sung black metal in all its misanthropic extremis, and the latter also introduced new members Zingultus (vocals) and Chaos (bass) to the team. Nagelfar later signed with indie label Ars Metalli for the 2001 release of their third and, as it turned out, final album, Virus West, after which they quietly decided to go their separate ways. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
