Biography
During a course of counselling for depression in 2019, Wilko Wilkes decided he needed to follow his dream of becoming a recording artist and live performer. Fast-forward and with numerous gigs and songwriting credits to his name, he released his debut album Life Is Not A Rehearsal in September 2022, later voted New Artist Spotlight Album of the Year. Wilko's engaging live set has turned heads in the Yorkshire music scene and beyond. Delivered at blistering pace with pinpoint precision, it has seen him play headline gigs & support big names such as Arrested Development and Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer. Always progressing, he now fully produces his own tracks from idea to release, following private mentoring sessions with legendary hip hop producer HashFinger, funded by Bradford Producing Hub. Wilko writes and raps from the heart, blending his troubled and uneasy outlook on life with messages of hope, unity & respect. Thought-provoking and original, his storytelling songs are peppered with humorous wordplay, mundane real-life references and unexpected twists...as well as his trademark manic laugh. A mental health advocate who is passionate about giving back to his local community, he regularly facilitates rap workshops for young people and is a facilitator with men's suicide-prevention charity Andy's Man Club.
