Biography
Amália Rodrigues was born in July 1920 in Lisbon, Portugal. Fado gave us Amália, but Amália gave Fado to the world. She is one of the most outstanding personalities of Portugal's Culture and History. As a woman and singer of a unique genre, she took her voice and the Portuguese language to more than 70 countries in the 20th century, becoming the nation's first truly international artist. Singer, interpret, actress and poet, she created her own style, she gave wings to Fado. Amália popularized the great poetry and became one of the faces of her country’s identity. Her voice carries “saudade”, tears, soul and the longing of a people. Amália Rodrigues died in October 6, 1999. Still today she is cherished by music lovers across the globe for her uniqueness and her extraordinary life. Official website: www.amaliarodrigues.pt Recording label: www.valentim.pt
