Biography
SUD (pronounced /so͞od/) is a five-piece act from Metro Manila formed in 2011 that has released music with genres ranging from alternative soul, alt-rock, indie pop, and alt-pop/ballad. The band’s current lineup consists of Sud Ballecer (vocals, guitar), Jimbo Cuenco (drums), Kohl Aguilar (keyboard), Carlos de la Fuente (saxophone), and Raisa Racelis (bass). Originally started as a blues funk act, the band transitioned their sound to soul in 2014 while gaining a remarkable following in the local independent music scene. In 2016, SUD released their first album SKIN, in partnership with Filipino spoken word group Words Anonymous. When one of the tracks from that album, “Sila”, their only Filipino song at the time, was used in national TV, SUD was able to penetrate the mainstream audience – being one of the first local indie artists to do so. Their music has brought them to arenas and coliseums around the country, and has given them opportunities to perform on national television, as well. In 2021, SUD released their sophomore album, inspired by the band’s single with the same name, “Dumaloy.” The concept album featured 12 tracks that highlight the different phases of romantic love. Dumaloy includes already released singles such as Di Makatulog, Sana Bumalik, and Baliw. Baliw will later on be the focus track of the band’s first ever tour held in different bars and selected Ayala Malls in the Philippines during the last quarter of 2022.
